Legendary Investor Leon Cooperman to Share Lessons, Insights at RWU

Community invited to attend Gabelli School of Business Leadership Institute presentation on Sept. 18

BRISTOL, R.I. – Few financial analysts can claim as decorated a self-made career as Leon “Lee” Cooperman – a first-generation college student in his family who built a career at Goldman Sachs before founding one of the most successful hedge funds in the nation.

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, members of the campus community and the public are invited to spend an afternoon with Cooperman for a presentation titled “Observations Regarding Life, Hedge Funds and the Investment Outlook.” The visit is part of the Guest Lecture Series organized by the Leadership Institute at Roger Williams University.

Cooperman has more than 45 years of experience in the financial industry and is a senior member and past president of the New York Society of Security Analysts. At Goldman Sachs, he spent 15 years as a partner and in 1989 became chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management.

After 25 years of service, he departed Goldman Sachs to organize a private investment partnership under the direction of Omega Advisors; he remains chairman to this day. For nine consecutive years, Cooperman was voted the top portfolio strategist, according to the Institutional Investor All-America Research Team survey.

On Sept. 18, Cooperman returns to Roger Williams as a guest of the University’s Leadership Institute, part of the Mario J. Gabelli School of Business. The University awarded Cooperman an honorary doctor of finance at its 1997 Commencement ceremony.

The presentation will take place in the Roger Williams University School of Law Appellate Courtroom (Room 283) on the University’s Bristol campus at One Old Ferry Road. The event will begin promptly at 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public; no advance tickets are required.
