Workshop on Identity with "Sister Outsider"

April 9, 2014
4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
Location: GHH G01

Join a workshop by Sister Outsider Poetry — and later today, hear a spoken word performance by them — at Pride Week 2014. Dominique Christina and Denice Frohman, Women of the World Poetry Slam champions, are Sister Outsider. This duo represents the current top two female slam poets in the world. Their tour marks the first time two Women of the World Poetry Slam champions have paired up. Inspired by the life and work of Audre Lorde, they write and perform their "otherness" and "inbetweenness" into the center. Sister Outsider Poetry's work connects deeply personal stories to a diverse range of social and political issues.

Part I: Borderlands workshop with Sister Outsider. This workshop will explore intersectionality and the realities we experience living multiple identities at the same time. Inspired by Gloria Anzaldua’s La Fronteras/Borderlands, we will discuss the relationships various races, genders, sexualities, and languages have with each other and how we find a space to define ourselves within a world that often asks us to choose.

Co-sponsored by CEN, Feinstein College of Arts and Sciences, Intercultural Center, and SAFE. Merit Point Event!
