The Department of History and American Studies is sponsoring a visiting scholar for one week on campus as a part of this semester's Social Justice Week (October 18 – 25). We'd like to welcome Oussama Bouagila, a lawyer, artist and social activist from Tunis, Tunisia. Oussama Bouagila will be on campus to speak about his social activism and leadership in the movement known as Zwewla (meaning "the poor" in Arabic), a movement of street artists in Tunis who are challenging the failings of the Jasmine Revolution in Tunisia. Bouagila will also do an art demonstration of political street art on canvas; this will take place in the afternoon on Monday, October 21 outside of the IC building. Refreshments will be provided prior to Bouagila's talk. This is a merit point event.
