Academy for Career Exploration & RWU SCS Forum: "EduHealth: Advancing Equity in Education"

The 2nd Annual NextGenLeadersRI forum — "EduHealth: Advancing Equity in Education Health-Related Social Determinants of Education" — hosted by the Academy for Career Exploration in partnership with Roger Williams University School of Continuing Studies, will focus on health equity and education and explore how leaders in education, business and the community can work together to improve fresh food access for students and support local communities.

The program will include a panel discussion moderated by RWU School of Continuing Studies Community Development Program Director Taino Palermo. The panel of EduHealth leaders will include:

  • Brian Hull, Director of Economic Opportunity, City of Providence
  • Ana P. Novais, MA Executive Director of Health Community, Family Health, and Equity Rhode Island Department of Health
  • Steve Osborne, Chief Innovation Officer, RIDE
  • Eliza Dexter Cohen, Food Access Coordinator, RI Public Health Institute
  • Janice Rodriquez, Student, Academy for Career Exploration.

The questions guiding the forum are:

• How does zip code affect health and education?

• How do health disparities in minority populations affect education and economic outcomes?

• How does lack of access to farm fresh foods and food equity issues impact students?

• How do healthy lifestyles and access to resources that support health impact a student’s future prosperity?
